“Models, whether physical or digital, are intrinsic to architecture. Just as other fields, such as science, mathematics, politics, and economics, use models to visualize, reflect, and predict behaviors, so do architectural models.” -Cynthia Davidson
This project aims to transform and innovate the current modes of architectural production, including subpath renderings, sections, and animations, by introducing fundamental concepts, techniques, and methods related to augmented reality (AR) in architecture and design. The focus is on exploring the potential for superimposing digital media onto physical artifacts, with an emphasis on discovering latent design opportunities embedded within AR models. The project aims to push the boundaries of AR, questioning whether it can offer more than just re-representations of existing architectural media.
Last fall, Anyone Corporation, renowned for its journal Log, showcased a Model Behavior exhibit, according to Cynthia Davidson, the director of Anyone Corporation, models, whether physical or digital, is crucial to architecture, just like other fields such as science, mathematics, politics, and economics. The exhibit examined how architectural models elicit and project social behaviors. The AR model investigated was wa.k Studio's 4 Square House model, allowing users to change light and season, use a camera clipping plane to cut an angled section, and view the house's inhabitants, including a tree and animated agent.
